We also offer amazing drumming workshops to schools working independently, or alongside our dance workshops.
Our wonderful drumming teacher Mitel has been drumming professionally for years all over the UK and abroad. He also loves teaching and has been working in schools for 20years.
For his Indian drumming workshops he brings with him a variety of Indian drums of all sizes, as well as lots of percussion instruments.
The children get a chance to try all the instruments before they choose what they want to play for the set piece at the end of the lesson. He then chooses one child to be the conductor and they conduct their new orchestra in the informal performance at the end of class. It’s fantastic to see how much the new conductor enjoy being in control of their fellow students in making the music!
For the last 4 years we have been going to Rockmount Primary School in Crystal Palace to deliver dance and drumming workshops for their India day, for all their year 2 students.
They put on lots of different workshops during the day (arts and Indian cookery) and we run the Indian dance and music workshops.
Teaching 4 classes in the day we get the children learning a piece of music, or a dance to perform to parents at the end of the day in a big performance. It’s really great to work towards a performance as the children have a focus and aim to work hard for. After the performance the parents also get to enjoy the food that the children have also been making – it’s so much fun!
Here are some pics of the drumming workshops in full swing, and also a video of one of the dances they performed to the parents in the assembly.
